The webinar organised by the Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI) presented the research conducted by Dr. Miika Kekki from Finland and Rosarii Molloy-Curran from Ireland on the Culturally Appropriate Career Counseling Model (CACCM). Originally developed by Fouad and Bingham in 1995 and expanded by Byars-Winston and Fouad in 2006, this model focuses on career counseling sensitive to cultural contexts.
During the webinar, the researchers shared their findings on how the CACCM, initially designed for counseling ethnic and cultural minorities in the United States, can be adapted to European contexts, specifically in Finland and Ireland. The research focused on the impact of cultural context on the career counseling outcomes for migrants and refugees.
The webinar included recordings and presentation slides detailing the metacognitive processes and strategies used by counselors to work with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Additionally, suggested readings and further references were provided for those interested in delving deeper into the topic.
This webinar was a valuable opportunity for career guidance professionals and researchers to exchange knowledge and experiences about adapting career counseling models in multicultural contexts.
